With the warm months past us we are sinking into the cold months when things can get harsh for anyone. In the past our ancestors had to worry about wild animals, loss of food, no wood, or anything. Today we have to worry about the poor being unable to pay their bills and therefore dying of the cold. We have a system that protects us from hunger, unlike our ancestors. This coming Halloween, the Wiccan Samhain, I’m going to be opening another bottle of mead and toasting those that had to struggle to survive and sometimes didn’t live to see the Spring.
I’m going to ask Odin for protection from the cold and wisdom to do the right thing. I’m also going to make a vow to him, that I will honor him and the gods more. But one thing is for certain, I won’t be apart of the wider Heathen community. They are not kind to those that aren’t all the time worshiping the gods. And I’m not hanging out with them.
